Some historians argue that the origins of Poker can be traced back to a card game similar to Domino created by the Chinese emperor during the tenth century. While others believe that its actual origins come from a Persian card game called “As Nas”, which has been played since the sixteenth century. However, the closest European ancestor to Poker is “Poque”, which dates back to the 17th century: it is originally from France but draws on another Spanish game from the sixteenth century which involved the use of 3 cards for each player and bluffing was a key part of the game. French settlers introduced “Poque” into North America, which was perfected in the United States in the early 1800s, until it reached its modern version, which includes 5 cards for each player.
